Session Speaker: Katie Jacobson, MAED - Director of Instructional Technology & Adjunct Instructor of Communication Studies at PLNU


This session explores how I ask students to use Perplexity to jumpstart their research for a persuasive speech. I will talk about how the instruction for speech writing is scaffolded, how using Perplexity works into that scaffold, features of Perplexity that make it suitable to this assignment, and how to evaluate the sources they find based on select criteria.​​​​​​


Speaker Bio: Katie Jacobson serves as the Director of Instructional Technology at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU). She has a background in instructional design across industries such as software development, defense, healthcare, retail, and higher education. She has developed soft skills training on topics like team building, conflict resolution, leadership, and change management.
