Session Speaker: Jay Burke, PsyD, LMFT


This session explores how GenAI tools, including Character.AI, an Ethics Practice Partner GPT, and a Bowen Theory GPT, were used in a master ’s-level Marriage & Family Therapy program to support clinical reasoning, ethical decision-making, and theory application. Students interacted with AI-generated characters and prompts to practice clinical interviewing, critique ethical responses, and explore family systems concepts. Introduced as exploratory tools, these applications helped educators and students engage with AI-enhanced instruction and demonstrated the broader opportunities AI offers in MFT education.

Jay Burke, PsyD, LMFT serves as Chair of the Marriage and Family Therapy Division at The Chicago School. His work focuses on academic leadership, program development, and the ethical integration of technology in clinical training.
